A Short Review Of Gay Adoption
Gay adoption is not a new concept, nor a new trend. Gays and lesbians, in fact, have been adopting for many years; however, it wasn’t realized in the past few decades. It was only recently that gay adoption becomes the common subject of almost every debates and household talks, and perhaps the reason for this long years of silence is that gays who have considered gay adoption before have kept it secret for certain reasons, and it was only recently that gay adoption has been done openly.
But, what was actually the real cause of gay adoption being a matter of “secret” before?
In the early days of gay adoption, several attacks against the concept were raised. I bet these attacks are still hot today. Some say that children are harmed when they are not raised in the company of both a mother and a father. Also, others have commented and argued that the children’s exposure to homosexuality at a very young age can potentially affect the child’s development in a negative way. It will affect the maturity of the child regarding sexuality in general.
Well, note that it was such controversies that trigger gays to lie in order for them to adopt a child. How do they do this? The tactic is just so simple – one partner considers adoption, while the other pretends to be a friend or a roommate. However, we cannot deny the fact that gay adoption is a serious matter to consider. It is even one of the most important decisions that every partner could ever make. So, honesty is needed. This is the reason that today, gay adoption has been opened to the public.
With the disclosure of gay adoption, several types of this kind of adoption have emerged. As far as I know, there are about three types of adoption process that most gays are currently considering. These processes include the following:
* Public Agency Adoption – In this process, the state and the agency is involved in the decision making. Usually, the courts make their decision based on what they think is in the best interest of the child who is in question. According to some experts, this process is somehow subjective and the result is merely left to the attitudes of the agency and the state towards the concept of gay adoption.
* Independent Adoption – This gay adoption is facilitated by someone other than a social worker or an agency. Physicians and attorneys can facilitate the process, and the decision is usually left to the families involved. Today, this type is illegal in many states, but there are some countries in the world that do accept and recognize this adoption type.
* International Adoption – According to some reviews, this type is by far the most complicated for the reason that finding an agency that is willing to work with homosexual couple and a foreign country is still needed to place a child in an alternative family. Many countries, however, are not making these decisions as they do not accept gay and lesbian couples.
Gay adoption, although publicly opened, is still a matter of controversy today. I think this is the main reason also that the exact number of gay couples who have considered adoption is still unknown. Many gay couples are afraid to share information because of the society’s feelings regarding homosexuality.

Homosexuality: Lets Reopen the Debate!
I wonder why, in the current cultural war over "gays" in general and whether they should marry in particular, no one speaks publicly of the issue of choice? Is it a closed issue?I mean, isn't the whole gay premise that since being gay is an innate, genetic trait, and since they cannot help being gay, that they should, as any other ethnic group, marry and even raise children? And how many times have we read that homosexuality is like race? It is like someone being black. That's a horrible analogy but it is what the gays say.
